Katyal AI is a small practice focused on applied AI — research that lands as real systems, and systems that are honest about their limits.

What we believe

Smaller teams ship better AI than larger ones, given the right framing. Most AI work fails for unglamorous reasons: unclear scope, wrong eval, ignored failure modes. We try to fix those first.

Calm tools beat clever ones. We pick boring infrastructure, careful abstractions, and rigorous evaluation over architectural fashion. The interesting AI work is what we plug into that.

Maintainability is a feature. Code we ship is code the next person can read and reason about — including future versions of us. Auditable agents, documented decisions, reproducible builds.

How we engage

We work with small teams (and the occasional individual) who want their day-to-day tools to think alongside them. A typical engagement is a few weeks of scoping + prototyping, evaluated together, with a clear decision at the end about whether to keep building.

We don't take on work that requires us to pretend AI is more reliable than it is. We do take on work where being precise about what works and what doesn't is the whole point.
